The public is urged to attend Sept. 28 and provide input on city’s trail system
 
HURRICANE – The Hurricane City Trails Committee is sponsoring an “open house” to gather input from the public on a new city trails master plan. Mark your calendar now to attend this very important community event scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hurricane City Office Building, 147 N. 870 W.

The Hurricane City Trails Committee assists city leaders as plans and programs are developed to expand and improve a network of walking and hiking trails within the city. 
Among the questions members of the trails committee would like the public to consider and answer at the open house are:

• Where would you like to see a trail on the ground in Hurricane City? 
• What kind of trails would you like to see put on the new Trails Master Plan? 
• Do you like to hike in the dirt?  Ride your bicycle in the dirt?  Walk or bicycle on a paved trail? 

This will be an informal setting with large maps for the public to review, along with lots of sticky notes to write ideas upon and then post on the appropriate map. Committee members and city employees will be there to explain the maps and answer your questions.
Your ideas will be used to help the committee develop a workable plan to move ahead with a user friendly, neighborhood friendly, nature friendly and tourist friendly trail system for Hurricane City. Establishing a trails system benefits future generations by preserving the earth for the enjoyment of all.
The Hurricane City Trails Committee has identified its 2010 objectives as:
·      To receive input from citizens as to what kind of trails are needed and wanted within Hurricane City’s boundaries.
·      To update the existing city trails plan.
·      To facilitate connectivity of existing trails in the city.
·      To interface our trails plan with the trails plan of our neighboring cities.
·      To facilitate connectivity of the Three Rivers' Trail System which is envisioned to provide a trail from Gunlock to Zion National Park.
·      And to get a portion of the new trail system "on the ground" within the next year.
