Dixie State Golf finishes 3rd at Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invite

PHOENIX, AZKyle Chappell (Richfield, UT/Richfield) and Nick Drost (Salt Lake City, UT/Brighton HS) finished tied for ninth by carding a 219 in the 54-hole Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational to lead the Dixie State College men’s golf team to a 3rd place finish. The 18-team tournament was played at the par-72, 7228-yard Wigwam Resort Gold Course in Phoenix, AZ.

Host school Grand Canyon University won the tournament by shooting nine strokes better than the Red Storm at 871. The Antelopes Matt Pridey won on a playoff hole after tying with teammate Jacob Golembiewski for medalist honors with a 213 score.

Head Coach Reed McArthur said, “We hit the ball well today and were able to hold par. I feel really good about our performance.”

Conner Jones (South Jordan. UT/Bingham HS) and Chad Crowther (South Jordan. UT/Bingham HS) finished tied for 18th by posting scores of 221. Rounding out the Red Storm golfers was Taylor Reardon (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS) who shot 244, tied for 81st.

After winning the Pat Hicks Invite in late February, the Red Storm has finished 6th twice and posted an 8th place finish last week at the Western New Mexico Invite.

Dixie State will have the week off before traveling to the Cal State Stanislaus Invite at the Turlock Country Club in Turlock, CA.
