WASHINGTON CITY – A flat tire from a trailer may have been what caused a fire that shut down Interstate 15 earlier today and shut down the southbound lanes at mile marker 11.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Dan Ferguson said both lanes were closed as firefighters battled the fire that caught the brush and landscape on fire. The smoke was so thick, vehicles were not able to continue on I-15 until the blaze was under control. Firefighters had the lanes opened back up before 5 p.m.

The fire burned nearly two acres and burned a portion of a guard rail.

There were no reported injuries.
