WASHINGTON COUNTY – A 21-year-old St. George man is being investigated after officers received information that the man may have set fire to his vehicle and filed a fraudulent insurance claim.

Detective Nate Abbott with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said officers received information about the burned vehicle and then found that vehicle in a remote location of Washington County. The owner of the vehicle had filed a stolen vehicle report with the St. George Police Department and filed an insurance claim with his insurance company, Abbott said.

Abbott said officers found probable cause to arrest the owner of the vehicle but he did not say what evidence was found. The man is facing charges both in St. George and Washington County if found guilty.
