RICHFIELD – Five puppies are alive after being found in a garbage bag on the side of the road.

Ashley Jones said her friends were driving by Broken Arrow Ranch in Gunnison when they stopped to check on their horse trailer. That’s when they discovered a moving black garbage bag on the side of the road.

Inside that bag were three female and two male puppies.

J.C. Schilling of Because Animals Matter said the puppies are being take care of in Richfield by a woman who is nearly nine months pregnant. BAM is urgently seeking foster homes for the puppies, which are believed to be 8-9 week old Labrador retrievers and are eating solid foods.

Schilling said she has received calls from many people she has never spoken to before about the foster program since the story first hit the Facebook wall for St. George News, but currently none of the puppies have been fostered out yet.

For more information, call BAM at 435-773-5209.
