HURRICANE – What is a perfect game in football? A perfect game in baseball is when a team does not allow any hits or runs and does not have any errors; in bowling it’s a score of 300; in golf, a perfect game would be considered a 59; there is not a perfect game in basketball but a triple-double could be considered close.

On Friday, August 19, Taylor Parker and the Hurricane Tigers traveled five hours north to play Skyline High School. What was so perfect about Taylor’s game?

Taylor Parker is the starting quarterback and the starting safety on defense. Parker threw for 110 yards, nothing perfect about that. Parker was 11 for 13 passing, not quite 100 percent. So why am I calling his performance perfect?

Parker threw three touchdown passes, led the team in rushing with 82 yards, and led in tackles with 11. He ultimately led his team to a 33-14 victory over the Eagles. Is it looking more perfect to you now?

Parker is also the team’s punter. He had only two punts the entire game because his Tigers were so efficient on offense. The two punts traveled a combined 80 yards. The 40-yard average is best in Region 9. What a game! He did all that in 48 minutes.

But wait, there’s more! Taylor Parker also had the team’s only interception. Taylor’s final stat line reads: Passing 11-13 for 110 yards and 3 touchdowns, 11 tackles, 1 interception, and 2 punts that totaled 80 yards-with a long of 42.

Playing a near-perfect game, Parker could have talked himself up, but he didn’t. Instead, he gave all the credit to his teammates; he said, “I just give all the credit to my offensive line, they worked their butts off and gave me plenty of time.” Parker did not leave his defense out saying, “The d-line played great too!”

Taylor Parker will lead his Tigers into battle against West Jordan, another 5A school, Friday night at Dixie College’s Hansen Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
