UPDATE Aug. 28: The Plateau Fire, which has been visible to a lot of people in the St. George area, is up to 4,000 acres; but David Eaker, Fire Information Officer, said that fire management believes they are in good shape and hope to have it contained by Tuesday. The Plateau Fire remains in remote areas, with no threats to communities and no road closures.
SOUTHERN UTAH – Although multiple fires have broken out throughout Color Country, previously reported on by St. George News, the Arizona Strip fires in the Paiute Wilderness are those which continue to receive concerted attention.
Kenton Call, Fire Information Officer with the Color Country Interagency Fire Response team, said that the other fires are either extinguished or under control.
Resources continue to focus on the Arizona Strip fires. Weather has been kind thus far today but thunderstorms are in this evening’s forecast and could be problematic as well as causing new fires.
Containment estimates are not yet given. There are as yet no road closures and no anticipated threat to communities, structures or persons.
