DSC’s Red Storm women explode offensively is soccer home opener

ST. GEORGE – Maybe the Dixie State College women’s soccer team was waiting to unleash the full fury of its offense until Friday’s regular-season home opener.

Jennifer Mason completed a hat trick in minute 67. helping the Red Storm to a 6-0 rout over the Academy of Art University.

DSC improved to 3-5 on the season and evened its mark in the Pacific West Conference to 1-1. The Urban Knights dropped to 0-3 in league play and 1-5 overall.

Mindi Beckstrom started the goal scoring for DSC in the fourth minute, with assists from Mason and Jordyn Ross.
 
Then, Mason took over. An unassisted goal midway through the first half gave DSC a 2-0 lead at the break.
 
Two more easy looks came in the 61st and 67th minutes, respectively, to complete Mason’s day.
 
Kelsey Gomer (77’) and Lauren Minnick (87’) filled out the DSC goal tally – both goals assisted by Kimberly Thurmond.
 
Abby Johnson earned the shutout win, making two saves in goal.

DSC plays Cal Baptist on October 1 at 4:30 p.m. at Hansen Stadium.
