Reds take on Warriors as both teams try to keep playoff hopes alive

ST. GEORGE – The Cedar Reds (1-4, 1-1) travel to Snow Canyon High School to take the Snow Canyon Warriors (2-3, 1-1) tonight at 7 p.m. Both teams are trying to get their second Region win and stay in the playoff hunt.

The Warriors need to shake off last week’s drubbing by the Hurricane Tigers and get back to the defensive team they are. The Warriors only gave up 14 points in the two games prior to the game against the Tigers.

The Warriors need to get quarterback Brayden Linde and running backs Mitch Phillips and Brandon McFarland back on track. Last week, Linde only threw for 62 yards, well below his 160 yards per game average. Phillips and McFarland only rushed for a combined 82 yards, also well short of their combined average of 130 yards per game.

After one of the toughest non-Region schedules in the state, the Reds got their first win of the season last week against Pine View and now look to keep their momentum going. Quarterback John Ursua only threw for 60 yards with zero touchdowns in the first two games. Now Ursua understands the Reds triple-option offense and has turned it around throwing for 437 yards and three touchdowns over the last three weeks.

Ursua’s change has not only come threw the air, Ursua has rushed for 403 yards and five touchdowns over the last three weeks. This is a huge change from the 61 yards and zero rushing touchdowns he put up in the first two weeks.

Pat’s Pick: Cedar
