Flyers open playoffs with defending state champion Juan Diego

DRAPER – The 7-2 Dixie Flyers have to travel four hours north to take on the three-time defending state champion Juan Diego Soaring Eagles today at 4 p.m..

Juan Diego comes to state with a 9-1 record and averages 37.9ppg. The Soaring Eagles get most of their offensive work done on the ground with three running backs with more then seven touchdowns on the year. Their most explosive player is Brock Garn. Garn has scored 12 rushing touchdowns, one receiving touchdown and even passed for three touchdowns while he was playing quarterback before being moved to running back after the week four loss to Skyline.

The Soaring Eagles new starting quarterback is Nick Markosian. Markosian has thrown for 636 yards and six touchdowns.

The Soaring Eagles have the No. 1 defense in 3A and the third best defense in the state any division.

The Flyers come in on a three game winning streak. Quarterback Blake Barney is only 169 yards away from throwing 2,500 yards on the year. The Flyers two main wide receivers are Kyle Hansen and Lukas Hildebrandt.

Justin Cummings is the Flyers starting running back. Cummings has rushed for 643 yards on the season and 11 touchdowns. Barney has also ran for 230 yards and five touchdowns.
