SelectHealth opens applications for its 2012 Select 25

SALT LAKE CITY – SelectHealth will recognize 25 Utah organizations that support health improvement or serve populations with special needs. Recipients of the 2012 Select 25 award will receive $2,500 to use toward making a healthy difference in their communities.

“As a nonprofit organization, we don’t pay dividends to shareholders,” said Patricia R. Richards, SelectHealth President and CEO. “Instead, we set aside a portion of our administrative budget to promote health and well being of all Utahns–essentially, we pay ‘dividends’ to the communities we serve. This award is one way to help other local organizations advance their mission of service.”

Applications for the Select 25 award are being accepted now through February 10, 2011 at select25.org. Only the first 500 applications will be considered.

At least three recipients will be chosen from each of four specified Utah regions – see region map. Thirteen at-large winners will also be chosen. Completed applications will be reviewed by a committee of leaders from SelectHealth, Intermountain Healthcare, and the community.

SelectHealth introduced the Select 25 award in 2008 in commemoration of its 25th anniversary.

Three of the 2011 winners were from St. George.

  • Healthy Dixie – School and Community Gardens – providing children with the opportunity to learn about gardening and the importance of proper nutrition.
  • Safe Kids – Washington County – promoting car seat safety, including free car-seat checkpoints and education for parents and caregivers.
  • Southwest Utah Community Health Center  – providing dental care to children without insurance and educates parents about good oral hygiene.
