ARIZONA STRIP – Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an emergency landing of an aircraft Wednesday morning on County Road 5, approximately 45 miles south of St. George.

At about 10:23 a.m., deputies responded to the desert area near Mt Trumbull of where a single engine plane, a 1966 Beechcraft, made an emergency landing on a dirt road due to engine failure.

The pilot, Robert Fuke, 66, of St. George, and his wife were not injured.

Fuke advised that he was en route to Phoenix when the engine began to run rough and eventually stopped working.  Fuke said that he landed successfully even though the landing gear failed to operate.  There was no reported fuel leakage.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified.
