Experience St. George’s first-ever pow wow

ST. GEORGE – Some of the top names of the pow wow circuit headline St. George’s first-ever Native American pow wow, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, June 1-2.

The mission of the event is to create a family-friendly environment that allows a variety of cultures and ethnicities to come together at the Dixie Center to celebrate differences through song and dance. Native arts and crafts, cuisine, and vendors will be featured to add to the fun.

“We sometimes get so entrenched in what we’re doing that we don’t appreciate the beauty of other cultures around us,” said Susi Lafaele, event coordinator. “We hope this two-day activity will enrich the lives of the community and beyond.”

The pow wow is expected to attract attendees from all over the western United States, many to watch performers including Randy Wood, a five-time Grammy-nominated artist, and Lord of the Strings Celtic fusion recording artist Arvel Bird.

The event will be held at the Dixie Convention Center, 1835 S. Convention Center Drive in St. George on Friday, June 1, from 2 p.m. to 10:00, with the Grand Entry at 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the Grand Entry at 1 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Admission is $3 ages 12 and older. Children 11 and younger are free.
