Game Preview Capsule: Dixie at Canyon View

GAME PREVIEW CAPSULE
Dixie (5-1, 2-1) at Canyon View (1-4, 0-2)
Previous Meeting – Dixie 44, Canyon View 0 (Sept. 30, 2011 at CV)

FLYERS
Classification: 3A, Region 9
Coach: Blaine Monkres (23rd year, 161-87 overall)
Offense: Spread
Last week: Beat Desert Hills 30-27
Players to watch: Against the Thunder, the Dixie defense gave up a lot of yards … until the fourth quarter, when DLs Chris Abraham, Jesse Lambert, Braxton Ipson and Taylor Berry started ruling the trenches. Pressure on the quarterback was the main reason for two late interceptions. QB Blake Barney continues to put up eye-popping numbers.
PPG: 38.0
PAPG: 19.2

Trend: The Flyers are definitely a hot commodity in Region 9, with their only loss a close one to the defending champs. A disturbing trend is the points allowed per game total, which has climbed dramatically in the last two weeks. Then again, Dixie has yet to play offensive weakling Cedar and this week’s game against Canyon View should also help that number considerably.

FALCONS
Classification: 3A, Region 9
Coach: Alex Huxford (fifth year, 7-34 overall)
Offense: Spread, pro-set
Last week: Lost to Ogden 42-35
Players to watch: RB Dallin Dastrup had 192 rushing yards and three touchdowns last week. QB Koy Huxford also passed for 287 yards and a pair of scores. His favorite target was McCoy Johnson, who caught four balls for 126 yards and a TD.
PPG: 16.3
PAPG: 34.3
Trend: For the Falcons, it was nice to go out of region and score some points, even if they didn’t win. CV has averaged 23 points a game in non-region games and just 3.5 points a game in Region 9 in two games. Unfortunately for the Falcons, they are playing the best offensive team in the region in the Flyers, who are averaging nearly 40 points an outing.

GAME OUTLOOK
Perhaps it will be cool in north Cedar City tonight and the Flyers will drop a lot of passes. Realistically, they’d had have to drop them all for the Falcons to have any kind of chance. Dixie’s starters will be chilling on the bench in the fourth quarter, literally, so they might want to bring a jacket.

STGnews PREDICTION
Andy Griffin (26-4) — Dixie
Jeff Ames (25-5) — Dixie
