ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College of Utah’s weekly noontime “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” convocation series continues its new “Great Faiths” discussions with a special Thursday presentation on Islam by Dr. Aslam Abdullah on Oct. 18.
The forum will be held in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the DSC campus and starts at 12 p.m. Admission is free.
Abdullah currently serves as director of the Islamic Society of Nevada and editor of The Muslim Observer. He has written 17 books on issues related to Islam, interfaith dialogue and human rights. Abdullah has taught Islam at various universities and colleges around the world and authors a blog on contemporary Islamic issues.
The Dixie Forum series will return to its regular Tuesday schedule Oct. 23, featuring a presentation by DSC Assistant Professor of History Dr. Joel A. Lewis on Atheism.

Islam is a despicable religion.
People need to learn more about Islam. Some of the most peaceful people in the world are Islamic. If you judge all Islamic people based on terrorist acts from the past, then why shouldn’t we judge all Christians based on the Westboro Baptist Church or the KKK?
These so-called ‘peaceful’ Muslims secretly gain satisfaction by living vicariously through the so-called ‘extremists’ and the terrorists who commit despicable acts in the name of a made-up deity. The religion’s positives fail to redeem it and what a glorious day it will be when Islam is dead.
I laugh at Atheists who despise religion for their many actions in the name of their deity. Complaining about close-mindedness and prejudice when, in actuality, their prejudice trumps that of the vast majority of the followers of any religion. It’s like fighting fire with fire. They also love to bombard people with judgement, without a single cursory knowledge of the religion or its followers. I’m an atheist, but I see the good in many people, religious or not.
