ST. GEORGE – The dust (and confetti) have settled, the stage lights dimmed, and Dixie’s Got Talent 2013 has declared a winner.
Pop singer and dancer Peyton Kemp won both the competition and the hearts of the crowd Thursday night at the Cox Auditorium. One of the youngest finalists, Kemp’s energetic performance earned him the top prize, which includes a professional recording session with Spiral Studios, a scholarship to Dixie State College of Utah and the gorgeous glass-etched trophy.
“It’s a lot to take in,” Kemp said.
This year, Dixie’s Got Talent awarded three top prizes, rather than a winner in three different age categories. Pianist Jesse Barraclough and violinist Cameron Hansen took second and third place, respectively.
Contestants had to contain their excitement after the first night of performances and the crowning of the Battle of the Bands winner on Wednesday, but didn’t miss a beat. The audience filled Cox Auditorium and their energy was just as powerful.
The finale program also included performances from 2012 winners Lauren Cain, Sabrina Parry and Emma Nelson, plus the Matt McDermott Band, fresh off their win Wednesday night.
“I really enjoyed the night,” Kemp said. “I feel great.”
Ed. Note: Correction made – Violinist Cameron Hansen took third place, not dancer Jeffrey Elggren as first published. Our sincere apologies to Cameron Hansen.
