LAKE POWELL – A boating accident today on Lake Powell has left one person dead, two missing and still others injured.

At approximately 8:15 a.m. today, National Park Service Dispatch, located at Wahweep Marina on Lake Powell, received a report by marine band radio about a boating accident involving a motorboat and a houseboat at buoy 43 near Dangling Rope Marina.

According to a statement released by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office at 3:45 p.m. today, one female person on the motorboat is confirmed dead, and two additional females are missing in the water. Other individuals on a boat involved in the incident were injured. At least one of those injured was flown out by a medical helicopter.

The remaining people are being transported back to Wahweep Marina.

Because of the remote area of the accident, and the lack of good communication, the Sheriff’s statement said that details are still coming in.

Officials from National Park Service, Utah State Parks, and Kane County Sheriff’s Office are working together on the investigation of the incident and on locating the missing individuals.

This is a developing story. Identification of persons involved is not being released until notification is made to family members.
