COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. – Around 3 p.m. on July 23, lightning touched down at the LeFevre Scenic Overlook, located at milepost 590 on Highway 89A, about eight miles north of Jacob Lake, Ariz. A group of people standing at the overlook were struck.
An adult male and female were pronounced dead at the scene and a male minor sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was not associated with the two deceased victims, who were identified as tourists from out of the country.
Several other people were standing at the overlook at the time of the strike but were unharmed and reported the incident to 911. The injured minor was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, while the deceased victims were transported to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Their names are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification. An investigation into this incident is being handled by the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office and the medical examiner.

The government should really be doing something about that lightning. I’m tired of our elected officials sitting idly by while nature wreaks havoc upon us.
I really don’t think this is the place for sarcasm. Two people lost their lives and you’re making a political joke? Have a little respect.
Well, consider the source. There’s very little that can be done with him at this point. Just try and ignore it like most people do.

What a shame that a lovely trip for them in such a beautiful place took such a terrible turn.
