BROOKSIDE – The wildfire that started yesterday at 3:35 p.m as a result of a lightning strike, burning wildlands between Brookside and Veyo, is currently estimated at 430 acres with zero containment. Four structures and a powerline are threatened and structure protection resources by Color Country Interagency firefighters are in place. There have been no reported injuries.
The wildfire has been named the Cinder Pit Fire.
More accurate acreage affected will be measured this morning as fire fighters with aerial resources are able to fly the perimeter.
Group tree torching and fire runs have been observed, with fire burning actively on the south flank throughout the night, adding approximately 20 burned acres. Pinyon, juniper and brush are fueling the fire.
Thunderstorms and potential winds with downdrafts are possible later today.
Road closures and evacuations
There are currently no closures in effect, but travelers are urged to use caution along Highway 18 and to be aware of fire crews along the shoulder. There are no evacuations currently in effect.
