SOUTHERN UTAH – The National Weather Service has issued a “Red Flag Warning” in effect from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in Washington and Iron Counties for wind and low relative humidity.
Affected area: Fire Weather Zone 495 (see map), Washington and Iron Counties west desert.
Winds: South at 15 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts over 30 mph.
Relative humidity: As low as 12 percent.
Impacts: Gusty winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels will combine to create hazardous fire weather conditions.
Precautionary and preparedness actions: A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
