SOUTHERN UTAH – For Halloween maybe you want to see a classic horror film in a chapel with a live organist playing the musical score?  You may want to amass candy or maybe you want to give back to the community by donating candy to the troops? Maybe you’d rather get your pants scared off at one of the local scare-fests, or get down at a collegiate-type Halloween party?

No matter what you want to do for halloween this year, this list – separated into categories based on particular Halloween bents – will set you in the right direction.

For families who want an alternative to the typical trick-or-treat tromp around the suburbs

For those who want to sit back, relax and be entertained

• Original version of the 1923 classic silent horror film “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” will be played on a projector screen while organist Geoffrey Myers plays the musical score through the pipes of the St. George Tabernacle organ | “Happy Halloween” by organist Geoffrey Myers | Wednesday Oct. 30 | 7 p.m. | Admission: Free | St. George Tabernacle, 18 South Main Street in St. George

• Traditional Latino Halloween folklore experience through a series of performances and exhibits about the morbid Latin American holiday known as “Dia de los muertos.” Performances by Southern Utah University’s various art and performance art departments | Day of the dead interactive dance performance, art gallery and music concert | Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2 | starting at 6:30 p.m. | Admission: Free | SUU campus, Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery and Thorley Recital Hall, located at the east end of Southern Utah University, 351 West University Boulevard in Cedar City

• Spectacular, hilarious, dance mashup performance used to tell various traditional halloween stories | The Odyssey Dance Theatre’s “Thriller” | Tuesday, Oct. 29 – Friday, Nov. 1 | 7:30 p.m. every day except Oct. 31 which begins at 8 p.m. | Admission: $18.50 – $28.50 | Tuacahn Center for the Arts, 1100 Tuacahn Drive in Ivins

For parents who want to teach their kids a life lesson, while still having Halloween fun

• Halloween event to raise awareness and hand out safety reflective bracelets while enjoying a kid friendly spook alley, halloween games and free professional photos for those who wear costumes | Little Goblins and Monsters Spook Alley | Thursday, Oct. 31 | 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. | Admission: Free | Family Health and Rehab, 63 S. 300 E. Suite 101, St. George

• Halloween event to promote children’s dental health; for every pound of candy a child brings in, the child will recieve $1 (up to 5 pounds) and that price will be matched and donated to the Dixie Care and Share.
