ST. GEORGE – A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Brigham Road and River Road Friday night. One person was transported to the hospital.

Around 8:20 p.m., a Ford Mustang traveling on Brigham Road came to the intersection and made a left turn onto River Road. At the same time a pickup truck was traveling southbound through the intersection and the two vehicles collided, St. George Police Officer Trevor Woolstenhulme said.

The collision rendered both vehicles inoperable and they had to be towed from the scene.

The driver of the pickup was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center as a precautionary measure, Woolstenhulme said, while the driver of the Mustang appeared unharmed.

The Mustang driver was cited for not yielding to oncoming traffic on a left turn.

The vehicles blocked the middle of the intersection, though traffic was able to traverse through the intersection. The scene was cleared just after 9 p.m.

This is one of the worst intersections in town. I am hoping the city will consider installing a signal at this location. There are certain times when it is nearly impossible to make a left turn onto River Rd from Brigham. Traffic in the left turn lane backs up way past the Stake Center between 2:30 and 3:30 pm. What makes it worse is those folks who go right at that intersection then whip a u-turn so they don’t have to sit there. Maybe SGPD will read this and position themselves nearby so they can observe all then fun when school gets out..

Yes traffic control is needed at that intersection….I agree with Dolly. Perhaps talk to our new Mayor Pike about that improvement.

I would like to know why in the world the city hasn’t gotten off of their collective duffs and installed a light here years ago. There is no excuse for it. Guess they were too busy buying carousels and outdated theaters.

Why spend more on a light in a place that doesn’t need one? Why not spend more on teaching idiots how to drive properly? I mean it a crazy concept to teach people if there’s a car coming I shouldn’t go in front of it simple as that.

You obviously don’t try to get off Brigham onto River Rd. N/B during rush hour. And good luck on teaching some of these idiots anything at all. . .

It’s more like rush “20-30 Mins” and that only happens after school. Probably doesn’t meet the requirements for a signal there. If there was difficulty there 3-4 times a day then it might require a light there.

Since traffic is only bad between River Road/Brigham Road and Desert Hills when school is starting and ending, maybe SGPD can send a couple of its VIP’s (volunteers) or officers to direct traffic. While I do not live in that area, I did make the mistake of going to a friends house at 8:00 am last week. WOW! Trying to turn left onto Bloomington Hill Drive from Brigham was a nightmare! Won’t make that mistake again.

Obviously, Betty, neither “Zeke” nor “Man” live in the area either. Sure there are times when traffic is light there.
But don’t swallow the line about it only being bad when schools are letting out. These folks either just do not know what they are talking about, or they are city employes trying to absolve themselves of blame for sitting on their backsides, rather than getting busy and putting in the traffic signals.
