BEAVER – A Dodge Caravan carrying a family of six rolled on Interstate 15 near Beaver Wednesday evening, resulting in critical injuries to the driver and lesser injuries to five passengers.
A green Dodge Caravan was traveling southbound on I-15 near the Millard-Beaver county line at mile post 132. The 19-year-old female driver was attempting to change lanes, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said, when she noticed another vehicle in her blindspot, swerved and over-corrected.
“That’s what put her into the median,” Royce said.
She then hit a large drainage culvert that was down in the bottom of the median and started to roll, continuing on through the two northbound lanes of the interstate before coming to rest.
“It was fairly dynamic,” Royce said.
All of the people in the Caravan were initially transported by ambulances from Beaver and Millard counties to the hospital in Beaver.
The 19-year-old driver suffered serious injuries, Royce said, including broken bones and fractures.
“They’re saying a skull fracture and a neck fracture,” he said Thursday morning.
She was flown from Beaver by Life Flight to Intermountain Medical Center on 53rd South in Murray.
The passengers included the driver’s mother and father and her three brothers, 8, 14 and 17. All were transported to the hospital in Beaver for more minor injuries.
Notwithstanding the injuries, all were wearing seatbelts and stayed in their seats with no ejections, Royce said.
“This is a great example of seatbelts saving lives,” he said.
Royce said notifications have not yet released the name of the family or their city of residence.

OMG the top half of the van is gone??? Was that from the rollover or extracting the accident victims.? I am sorry this happened glad they were wearing seatbelts.
I hope they will be okay. I would sue Dodge. The top is not supposed to come off like that.
