ARIZONA STRIP — On Saturday night, the Arizona Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle accident that occurred on a bridge near Interstate-15, mile marker 22 in the Virgin River Gorge.
A white Dodge Dakota driven by a St. George woman collided with a cement wall at approximately 7:11 p.m. One northbound lane was closed for accident cleanup, slowing traffic for approximately 45 minutes.
Although her truck was towed from the scene, the driver didn’t report any injuries but was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons, AHP Officer John Rogers said.
The truck drifted off the road and into the dirt just before the bridge. The driver over-corrected and crashed head-on into the wall, according to a statement she gave authorities.
After the crash, the woman showed indicators of alcohol impairment. She was cited with criminal mischief charges for driving over the legal limit. A DUI charge is pending until the results of a blood test are returned, Rogers said.
Ed. note: This report is based on preliminary information provided by the authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
