MESQUITE Nev. – A Mesquite woman used social media to summon help, which led to the arrest of the man accused of holding her against her will for about six months in Mesquite motels.
According to a report filed by the Mesquite Police Department, on Saturday, officers responded to the MV Motel, 151 East Mesquite Blvd., Mesquite, Nev. at about 10:22 p.m. after receiving a report of a possible kidnapping.
After conducting an investigation, police arrested Jason Greniger, 34, on an outstanding warrant from Minnesota and for second-degree kidnapping.
Police were contacted by the woman’s friend who saw a message posted on her Facebook page saying she was being held at the motel by “Jason” and she was not allowed to leave, the police report said.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal has reported the woman’s age as 26, but this was was not expressed in the Police Report.
Officers found the woman at the motel with Greniger, she appeared to be scared of Greniger and relieved that officers were there, the police report said.
The suspect initially identified himself as Jake Paul from Michigan. Police determined the suspect’s true identity through his physical description and record checks.
Officers found that there was an outstanding warrant for Greniger’s arrest in Minnesota for first-degree malicious punishment of a child and also found that the woman had an active protective order against Greniger that had been issued in Minnesota.
The woman told police that Greniger, an ex-boyfriend, had picked her up from her home in California and he had threatened to harm or kill her and her family if she escaped.
During the months that she was being held captive, the woman told police that she had been allowed to go to the grocery store to purchase beer and on Saturday she was able to go to the library, where she posted the message on Facebook.
Greniger was transported to the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, Nev., where he is being held on $200,000 bail.
