ST. GEORGE — Two separate accidents at about 8 a.m. Wednesday slowed traffic for a short time near 2500 South River Road.
The first accident involved a grey Chrysler PT Cruiser that crashed into the rear of a white Toyota Sienna van, both vehicles were southbound at about 2500 South.
The driver of the Sienna complained of some neck pain, but refused medical transport, St. George Police officer Jamison Hale said.
The Sienna was driven by a woman who was taking her daughter to school and the PT Cruiser was driven by a woman with her two sisters as passengers who were also on their way to school, he said.
The driver of the PT Cruiser was cited for following too close.
A second accident involving three cars also southbound on River Road is believed to have been caused by the slowing traffic from the previous accident, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said. A silver Honda Civic crashed into a white Dodge Intrepid and then a white Mitsubishi Galant then crashed into the rear of the Civic, Despain said.
The white Mitsubishi was towed and the other two cars were driven from the scene. There were no injuries in this accident.

Ed. Note: It was initially reported that the driver of the white Honda Civic was cited in the second accident. This was preliminary information from the scene as had since proven to be a possible sourcing error. As the police report into the incident has yet to completed, the police stated they could not confirm which driver may have been issued a citation for the incident.

Again stupid crashes!
Can I just add that many of the younger drivers around St. George follow way too closely! I’ve never seen such tailgating and I’m originally from California. In California they solve that problem by stomping on the brake. A little fender bender is usually a quick fix to get kids out of the habit. Maybe not tailgating is something that should be emphasized a little more by parents and driving instructors in Southern Utah.
Tailgating is not just the young folks my dear. I’ve had many adults tailgate me so close that I’ve felt better in slowing down just so they would get tired of going slow and move along. Then there has been other times I too have tapped the brakes and some of those times have been a hard tap.
Please everyone please please pay more attention and leave enough space between you. Also don’t be in such a rush to squeeze in. Dh has nearly been in several wrecks because people cut in front of him. He said it’s like they can’t stand to let you have any space beteyou and the car in front of you
isn’t it taught in the UT driver’s manual that the safe following distance is 2 inches? that would make sense 🙂
Interesting that one of of the rear enders in the second crash was cited, but the second rear ender wasn’t.
I do agree with this news report except for the fact that it was not the silver honda civic that was sited with a following to close ticket, it was me in the white Mitsubishi galant.
Hello I am the driver of the Honda civic and I would like to say that the information on here is FALSE. I did not hit the car in front of me. I drove at a safe distance and stopped in time and didn’t crash into anyone. The picture up there was take after they asked us to move our cars. The car behind me then hit me from behind after I came to a complete stop. I hope next time you post an article that you get your facts straight first.
