News Short: Fatality victim at Grand Canyon National Park identified

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. – The name of the person killed while hiking at Grand Canyon National Park Monday has been released.

Jody McDaniel, 45, of Flagstaff, Ariz., fell 400 feet to her death off the rim at Mather Point located on the South Rim of Grand Canyon, according to a Grand Canyon National Park news release.

At approximately 1:10 p.m., Monday, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call reporting a female that had fallen.

National Park Service Helitak crew located the body approximately 400 feet below the rim. National Park Service Search and Rescue crews recovered the body.

An investigation in the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner. No further information is available at this time.
