SPRINGDALE – The St. George Dance Company joins the Southwest Symphony Orchestra for a twilight performance at the majestic O.C. Tanner Amphitheater in Springdale on Saturday. The evening under the stars will pay a patriotic pop tribute to our veterans on Armed Forces Day. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a chuck wagon dinner sponsored by the Fawson family as a fundraiser for the Symphony. Dinner tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. The dance and musical performance will immediately follow at 8 p.m.

Choreographers Summer Robertson and Jennie Jones and dancers provide visual interpretation of the Suite of Old American Dances by Robert Russell Bennet including the pieces Schotische, Wallflower Waltz and Rag. In Schottische, three woman travel in a carriage over a bumpy road to a tea party down the lane. Dancers bob up and down and take in the sights along the way. Wallflower Waltz is a romantic duet between Jennie Jones and David Christopher Short. Rag is a behind-the-scene glance at the rehearsals and preparations of cancan dancers before their big show.

The St. George Dance Company will also perform to Gershwin’s “Summertime.” This dance takes us back to a time when certain luxuries like air conditioning didn’t exist and looks at how our day-to-day living has evolved. The tea party is rather boring and the young folk slowly start slipping away and reunite down near the river to cool off. Finally, dancers perform a patriotic and heartfelt tribute to Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, concluding the concert and recognizing our veterans on Armed Forces Day.
