SOUTHERN UTAH – The St. George Communications Center received multiple calls Tuesday evening reporting fires on the west side of Washington County, all apparently started by lightning. Fire crews were dispatched from Enterprise, Bureau of Land Management and other nearby agencies. Washington County Sheriff’s deputies were also dispatched.
At 9:53 p.m., Color Country Interagency Fire Center confirmed around four to six fire starts had been reported – two out by Enterprise, one by the Nevada-Utah Border and one by Motoqua. Two fires have also been reported on Utah Hill but were not yet confirmed at the time of publishing.
Fire crews are still being worked into the various fires – Motoqua being the largest, with preliminary estimates provided by Color Country Interagency Fire Center at being possibly between 10–15 acres.
This report will be updated as additional information is received.

Why is it called the St George Communication Center when it serves all of Washington County and beyond. This should be a County effort not a St George exclusive . We all pay our 911fees. I’m glad the fires were contained quickly . Good job fire personnel .
Dear St. George? There is a lot of interagency cooperation among the municipalities and county in Washington County – Dispatch, or the St. George Communications Center, being one of them. Here is a report we did in December 2012 specifically on the dispatch center. I’m thinking this will answer your question more effectively than I can do in this comment forum. See what you think and thanks for the question: http://www.stgeorgeutah.com/news/archive/2012/12/28/kuzmanic-kessler-st-george-dispatch/#.U7QEbo1dWwk

I passed 3 truckloads of BLM firefighters heading S/E tonight, off Green Springs road. Made my stomach knot up. Prayers for all involved, especially those sweet firefighters who walk into terrible conditions when they do not have to care.
Thank you San My husband was one of those firefighters and I cry every time he leaves. Thank for your comment
