New fire reported near Enterprise Reservoir

ENTERPRISE – Another fire has been reported near Enterprise Reservoir and is currently over 800 acres as of Friday evening. Called the Greek Peak Fire, it was ignited by lightning during the volley of lightning strikes that hit the area over a 48-hour period.

Located 6 miles southwest of the Enterprise Reservoir, the Greek Peak Fire is estimated to have burned 840 acres since Wednesday night and has yet to be contained.

No closures are currently in effect as a result of the fire; however, fire officials are asking the public to avoid the area so fire crews can work unhindered.

The fire is currently very active and is being fueled by cheatgrass, mixed brush, pinyon/juniper trees and black brush.

So far, no road closures have been issued, no structures are threatened and no injuries have been reported in connection with the fire.

Resources on hand to combat the fire include three hot shot crews, two type 4 fire engines, two type 6 fire engines, eight smoke jumpers, one type 2 helicopter and three type 3 air tankers.

Other fires in Washington County

Another fire, the Bull Mountain Fire, which is 435 acres and at 5 percent containment, is located 3 miles north of Enterprise Reservoir and was originally reported Tuesday evening. It was also caused by a lightning strike.

The Basin Fire, located 8 miles north of Gunlock, was last reported at 80 acres. Updated containment information is currently unavailable. This fire was also lightning-caused.

Located 25 miles south-southeast of Caliente, the Middle Ridge Fire started in Nevada and crossed into Utah. This lightning-ignited blaze has burned 9,100 acres and is 1 percent contained, according to the state’s Utah Fire Info website. The majority of the fire, 8,126 acres, is located in Nevada. The remaining 974 acres are in Utah.
