CEDAR CITY – Sunday evening Cedar City Police arrested Jamie Begay, 27, of Cedar City after police were called to investigate a criminal mischief.

“It was discovered that the reporting person, Jamie Begay, was intoxicated to the point where she was a danger to herself,” wrote Sgt Jimmy Roden, Cedar City Police in a statement issued Monday. “Begay began inflicting injuries to herself and had to be restrained.”

Cedar City Police then arrested Begay for intoxication, a class-C misdemeanor, and a window tint violation, a class-C misdemeanor. She was transported and booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility.

Four hours later, Cedar City Police officers were called to an address where someone had allegedly broken into a home and damaged multiple items inside of the home.

Based on the relationship the resident of the home had with Begay, Roden said, and because of a recent argument between the two, the resident of the home believed Begay was responsible.

“Begay was interviewed at the Iron County Correctional Facility,” Roden said in his statement. “Information and evidence collected yielded probable cause to believe that Begay had broken into the home prior to being arrested.”

Additional charges for burglary, a second-degree felony, and criminal mischief, a class-A misdemeanor, were then added to Begay’s arrest.

Begay remains in custody and bail is set at $6,530.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
