VIRGIN RIVER GORGE, Arizona – A vehicle accident has occurred around 12:30 p.m. MST (Arizona), 1:30 p.m. MDT (Utah) on northbound Interstate 15 around Arizona mile post 9 near Littlefield and the mouth of the Virgin River Gorge.
Emergency crews are working to provide aid to patients and Life Flight medical helicopter has responded for transports.
Arizona Highway Patrol and Mesquite Police Department in Nevada are advising motorists to expect long delays northbound as lane closures are being made to accommodate helicopter and other emergency responders.
At 1:42 p.m. MST, 2:42 p.m. MDT, AHP Sgt. John T. Bottoms said that the Interstate is open, although it is heavily congested.
“Anticipate an hour or longer to drive from Mesquite to reach the Gorge,” Bottoms said.
At 4:15 p.m. MST, 5:15 p.m. MDT, AHP Sgt. John T. Bottoms reported traffic was cleared.

Alternate route
To detour traffic in the Virgin River Gorge, take Highway 91. The highway bypasses the Gorge entirely, intersecting with I-15 at Littlefield, Arizona, to the south of the Gorge, and connecting to the City of Santa Clara to the north from which Sunset Boulevard leads to St. George. See map inset.
