ST. GEORGE – A portion of Airport Road in St. George was closed for more than an hour Thursday night in the aftermath of a collision between a convertible and a pickup truck.
Shortly after 9 p.m., a convertible was heading down the steep portion of Airport Road toward Bluff Street when it crossed into the opposite traffic lane and collided with a pickup truck that was heading up the hill.
“The driver and the passenger in the convertible were distracted by the radio, and it appears, just preliminarily looking at things, they kind of just veered over the center line,” St. George Police Sgt. David Williams said.
When the convertible crossed over the line, the truck driver swerved to avoid it, Williams said. The two vehicles collided, which caused the truck to spin and then roll.
“It didn’t roll a lot,” Williams said. “Landed on its wheels.”
Both vehicles remained on the blacktop – neither vehicle left the road or went over the edge of the hill – and no one was injured or transported to the hospital as a result of the accident, Williams said. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
“It’s a definitely a rough spot to be having an accident,” Williams said.
The driver of the convertible was cited for crossing the center line.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

I’ve lived all over the world. The worst drivers I’ve ever encountered are in St. George. I see an accident almost every day. I was at Costco the other day and I almost got hit three times, once while I was pushing the cart back to my car. Pathetic.
