SC Juniors break out the bats in rout of Nevada champs

VANCOUVER Wash. — Austin Deming led Snow Canyon to an 18-1 blowout victory over the Nevada State Champs in Vancouver, Wash., with a strong game at the plate and on the hill.

The game started out a little bumpy as the Warrior batters stranded four runners in the first three innings while giving up 1 run to the home team on an infield error. Nerves settled and Deming and the rest of the Warriors found their groove.

Spencer Snow stepped up to the plate and belted a deep fly ball to the fence that scored Nowatzke from second to tie the game. Snow later scored in the inning when Seth Smith stroked a single to left.

With the 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth, Deming continued his domination of the Nevada Champs. He finished the day giving up just three hits, striking out eight and not allowing an earned run.

The Warriors kept their bats hot and put up 8 runs in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a triple from Tyson Fisher that scored Deming. The Warriors plated 8 more runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Stephen Gubler, an RBI single by Jed Jensen, a three-run triple by Deming, an RBI single by Austin Staheli, an RBI double by Braden Baker and an RBI single by Brooks Sampson.

Overall, Snow Canyon hammered Nevada pitching with 17 hits and 18 RBIs.

When asked about the change in the hitting after the third, Coach Nate Jensen said, “Early on, the boys were swinging at strikes but not good strikes. I told them not to press and just relax. They picked out pitches they could do something with and the rest is history.”

“These kids are great young men,” Jensen continued. “As coaches, we are proud of them as a group. The interesting thing is that each day it is somebody different. Every one of these boys can contribute.”
