Letter to the Editor: Our president is an embarrassment to the world

Stock image, St. George News

OPINION – Our president is an embarrassment to the world, a person who is so far in over his head he goes golfing every chance he gets because he is so far in over his head.

Liberals chided Sarah Palin because she didn’t have enough experience, which she did by the way, but elected a radical community organizer, one who has never even run a lemonade stand! Plus he has destroyed the greatest military might in the world, fired hundreds of generals that disagreed with his policies and opened our borders to many diseased illegals and criminals. He has purposefully run up our national debt to unprecedented levels and is in the process of destroying our coal industry while throwing millions to his crony buddies in the solar industry and quickly destroying our economy.

How many more executive orders will he write to bypass the other branches of government? Why have the other checks and balances in place if you can go around them, sounds more and more like a guy from Germany who the world loved to hate.

The press has a love affair with the liberal politicians and their policies, most fail to report both sides with an unbiased opinion. Their heads have been filled with many socialist professors’ ideals which has caused them to not think for themselves.

Socialism is here, this nation better wake up soon. The sad truth is that the Republicans have become the Democrats and the Democrats have become the Socialists.

This is one of the most important elections America is facing, liberal policies have failed, the press has failed and the voters who elect these lousy liberal politicians have failed. Politics in America has failed “we the people.”

We need to elect independent conservative representatives who want the best for America! No wonder dumbocrats don’t want voter ID in many states, it levels the playing field and brings honesty and integrity to the polls, something the corrupt politicians are against. Think again before voting for these undercover socialists they call Democrats and some are even Republicrats!

The future is in our hands, vote and educate yourselves, your future depends on it!

Just let me say that my view of the world is completely different. The governments job is to serve the people not the other way around.

  • JJ September 4, 2014 at 8:43 am

I couldn’t read this past the second sentence, just a bunch of talking points. If you have intelligent to say, say it. Just throwing out scary regurgitated catch phrases (socialism! Radical!) doesn’t add anything of value to the conversation.

    • Simone September 4, 2014 at 4:15 pm

      JJ,
Kevin’s party isn’t actually doing anything so, in reality, name calling and throwing out regurgitated catch phrases are the only cards he has to play.

  • Richard September 4, 2014 at 8:52 am

Truly sad that the author of this bunk has no clue about reality! Easy to detect that his rant was triggered by constantly watching certain news programs and visiting far sided websites. Straight parroting and lacking substance and facts!

  • Mark Rauenzahn September 4, 2014 at 8:59 am

Diseased immigrant?!?! Is that a veiled racist response hidden by your keyboard and Internet connection? I’m not an immigrant but your open letter is part of the “what’s wrong” here and across America. What makes you the expert? Oh I bet because of your religious affiliation you have the right to define a class of people. You sir, disgust me.

    • Brian September 4, 2014 at 9:22 am

It’s very easy to find direct, first-hand info from the “boots on the ground” at the border that many illegals are coming across our southern border carrying all manner of diseases, like drug-resistant TB (which is a nightmare), and the government officials are turning a blind-eye for political expediency (not humanitarian motives, which would involve treatment and transparency). If you choose to ignore those facts, that’s on you. It has ZERO to do with race. They aren’t illegal immigrants as much as undocumented democrats (which is why they are being dumped into “red” cities, a fact the white house is actively covering up and stonewalling on as we type). So keep being ignorantly disgusted and blaming it on the religion of others, but it’s still on you.

I’m in the very small minority: a conservative that was strongly opposed to Bush (even before the 2004 election). Bush diluted the Constitution in many ways, abandoned conservative and free market principles, crossed many lines and opened many doors that shouldn’t ever have been opened. King Putt Putt has been able to get away with so much of what he has because Bush did it first, making the republicans look like hypocrites if they opposed him (and rightly so). I’m far more disgusted with republicans / conservatives than I am with democrats / liberals (but only because I expect it from the liberals). I agree with this article except the part about the next election being one of the most important elections ever. The most important votes we make are the ones we constantly make: choosing convenience over responsibility; complaining but not acting; supporting companies we know to be evil because we like their products; paying into the system thereby further empowering those in power (be they elected officials, bureaucracies, or companies). The problem isn’t the president (or the people pulling his strings), it isn’t unions, and it isn’t parties. The problem is a populace that is happy to play the role of helpless child as long as they’re given plenty of toys and candy. The system is broken because the people were broken first. Because the problem came from the bottom up, it will only be solved from the bottom up. The solution is for us to live right, because it’s right. To fiercely stand by our principles, even if the cost to us personally is high. But that is a long process, and I don’t think we have a long time. This problem will be solved by a reset of literally biblical standards, and we earned every bit of it fair and square. I’ll still vote and vote my conscience (none of this party / strategy bull crap), but because it’s the right thing to do, not because I think it will change things.

Wow Brian, this comment actually seems fairly sensible. We don’t usually see sensible or rational thinking from Mormons. What I usually see from Mormons is like an ostrich with it’s head in a hole, usually just blindly following and obeying. Not bashing, just stating an observation…

      Excellent post

    • Allie September 4, 2014 at 12:05 pm

The president is the only elected federal official who is limited to two terms in the three branches of government. The Supreme court judges are lifers when appointed; in Congress Senators and Representatives can run for as many terms as they want. So, is it one person who is the whole problem? The two party system has become antagonistic towards each other rather than trying to make the U. S. a better country. If we limited all elected federal officials (president and congress) to a six year term it would allow that official to concentrate on their job, not getting re-elected. It would also bring a new mix into the fold every year. Every year 1/6th of Congress would have new blood and new ideas. The “committee leaders” would change, not allowing the same people with the stronghold to “table” ideas/bills of the newcomers. In addition to a six year, one term election, no family members, or the elected can ever hold a federal government position. This would eliminate family dynasties and influence. (Kennedy, Bush, Rockefeller, Clinton, etc) or living high on the hog off of our tax dollars. There are millions of qualified people in this country, do we keep electing the same stupid handful? The system needs to be changed. If you ask your elected official to support this, their answer would be they would have to change the Constitution and that would require huge undertaking. They’ve done it before, it isn’t that hard. They don’t want to loose their cushy, powerful positions. Push for a six year, one term limit for all elected federal officials.

      • DB September 4, 2014 at 3:05 pm

Allie, I absolutely agree. Only, I’d be a bit more lenient and suggest twelve years max. That would be two senate terms or three house terms.

  • Bobbi September 4, 2014 at 9:45 am

I would have to say that you people who are commenting are extremely rude. If a person has an opinion, which I noticed this news piece specified, then how is this person’s opinion not as valued as yours? If someone wishes to speak out, and if it’s different than your opinion, why is this person disgusting? I understood what he meant by “diseased immigrant”, and perhaps it was better than “Illegal immigrant”? He is correct in saying these people came over the border with diseases and sicknesses that need to be taken care of. This makes him a racist? This makes his religious affiliation wrong according to who? He is speaking out on what many believe to be truth, and just maybe, he is right. Did you ever consider that? Perhaps you all would be better off opening your minds to other scenarios than just the one the “socialist” news media is feeding you.

Well one thing for sure Washington is in a mess and it will take a President to step up and be a Hero! Obama is no such person and I see no Republican that wants the job. When Corporate America is kicked out of Washington things will get better.

  • George September 4, 2014 at 10:12 am

Before you start talking about executive orders you might what to see how many other Presidents have used. Oh also check the number of vacation days others had. Which really are not days off. I guess golfing is worse than riding you horse or cleaning brush on your ranch. And as far as voting the people did speak when he was voted in not once but twice. You just didn’t like what they said. An one last thing I don’t feel he has done everything the way I think nor did I the last one. But if I would have said some of the things that are being said about this President about the last President I would be a traitor. You say things now and your a Patriot.????

    • COO Coo Mormons September 4, 2014 at 8:11 pm

Or spending half your time in office on vacation as did Bush.

  • McMurphy September 4, 2014 at 11:46 am

I voted against Obama twice. I didn’t vote for McCain and Romney — I voted against Obama. Having said that there are some things in this foaming-at-the-mouth rant of a letter to the editor that need to be challenged.
Obama has not destroyed the US military. It is till by far the most capable and potent military force in the world. Obama has issued fewer Executive Orders that his predecessors. He has taken fewer vacation days than many of his predecessors. The national debt has skyrocketed under Obama. However, the recent expansion began under George W. Bush who refused to fund the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan. The explosion in debt has been done with little or no opposition from the Republicans. Obama has not opened the borders; he has not closed the borders that have been open since Ronald Reagan.

Republicons like Romney and Bush destroyed this country for their personal interests.

  • DB September 4, 2014 at 3:09 pm

I’ve been watching how Obama looks and what he has been saying for the last ten days and he seems to be just plain lost. Even MSNBC is befuddled!

  • bud September 4, 2014 at 3:55 pm

The only “embarrassment,” here is this letter to the editor. I’m guessing this is a Tea Party angry old white guy who relies on Limbaugh and Hannity and Fox news for his disinformation, and has a memory about as long as a certain male appendage. He rails against an America with its changing demographics, while at the same time leans on Social Security plus Medicare which he gets for little out of pocket. Wow, imagine ,socialist programs, you don’t want? Give them up. As to Sarah Palin who, “Quit,” her governorship before her term was up to chase big money. Best to check facts before printing foolishness. The radical community organizer, his goal was to bring poor people out of poverty with some dignity. Sounds like a worthwhile aspiration. As to the Presidents executive orders, check Snopes.com to get the real number. Snopes.com lists 168 executive orders by Obama in 3 years the least of all Presidents since Franklin Roosevelt. Do some research before you show your ignorance of the topic. Plato said, “Wise men speak because they have something to say, Fools because they have to say something.”

  • Simone September 4, 2014 at 4:10 pm

First off, I didn’t vote for Obama in the last election (i voted for Ron Paul) however of the two main choices, Romney and Obama, I would have voted for Obama over Romney if they were the only two possible choices. I don’t support everything the democrats do but at least they are doing something. All Republicans are doing is:
    1) blocking legislation written by democrats
    2) whining and;
    3) making up outrageous lies to try and cover the fact that they aren’t doing anything besides block and whine.
The problem that I see with Republicans is that they are blocking and whining about democrats’ ideas and legislation but aren’t creating any legislation themselves. They are not trying to fix anything, not really. Kevin’s opinion is proof of that. Nowhere in his letter did Kevin mention anything that Republicans were doing to try and correct the issues at hand. Again, all they do is whine. Whine, block and make up lies. Oh and shut down the government. 🙂

  • St. George Senior September 4, 2014 at 6:09 pm

Paranoia …they are coming to get us… better watch out. Help help help! I think there is a liberal lurking in my basement. Cheeze… I’m glad to see some more rational comments posted to this editorial.

  • Burton September 4, 2014 at 6:27 pm

Well I do agree with the article. But I think that its becoming completely irrelevant at this point. While the democrats and republicans, conservatives and liberals, hippies and bible thumpers argue back and forth with all of the media pandering their biased opinions you all are debating a point that in my opinion will not matter soon. While the current administration and the so called media turns a blind eye to reality there is a war going on. Unfortunately there is only one aggressor. While people all across the world want to ignore it there is a war between the Christians and the Muslims, and Islam is at war with the U.S. All of our opinions will be non relevant soon in my opinion. Anyone who voted for this weak administration can blame themselves for where we ate headed. If we don’t get our elected officials to do their jobs and protect the citizens and the constitution of the U.S . the war WILL be on American soil soon I think. I hope everyone is preparing for what we all know is really on the way. I am not a doomsdayer or a MORMON! for whoever said that. Just a Christian who is scared to death after seeing what is going on. While we sit here and argue back and forth Islamic and Muslim extremists are on their way during the weakest administration in history to carry out attacks. whether that be on Christians or Americans it doesn’t matter where you fall into a category. And yes I do think this administration is to blame for weakness. But in my opinion its a designed weakness, because this is exactly what our current admin wants. Don’t believe me? Do your research to see how many Muslims and extremists have been appointed to Obamas cabinet. So keep blaming everything on George Bush but at the end of the day the only ones to blame is the folks who voted for an unequipped and NO experienced president. I don’t even blame Obama, he is just doing what the uneducated voters allowed him to do. But now we will all pay the price. I will guarantee you one thing if Bush jr., Reagan, Or even Putin was our president NONE of this would be going on. There would be NO threat from these cowardice radicals. Educate yourselves and try to put yourselves in the best position for when the 17 trillion dollar debt collapses the U.S economy.

    • Simone September 5, 2014 at 2:32 am

Um sorry to burst your bubble here but, despite what Fox News said, not all Muslims are extremists looking to destroy America. Now since you brought it up, it’s not very likely that we would be TRILLIONS of dollars in debt if good ole Bush had not involved us in not one but TWO wars. From you previous comments Burton you appear to be one of those people who argue that we should return to the original constitution and that’s fine, this is America and you are entitled to make your argument either way. Fortunately, so am I. That said, tell me this Burton, Are you against Civil Rights? What about slavery? Do you oppose giving women the right to vote? I’m a woman of some means, I come from a upper middle class family, should I be allowed to attend college or am I destined, in your mind, to a life of cooking and cleaning? What if I want to own land? Get a credit card in my name? I’m in the IT field and looking to start my own company, should I be allowed to do that without a mans approval or backing?

      • EL JEFE September 5, 2014 at 10:34 am

SIMONE, judging by what you ask towards the end of your post, “civil rights, “slavery”, “giving women the right to vote”, you “come from a upper middle class family”, “should be allowed to attend college”, “want to own land”, “get a credit card in my name”, you are “in the IT field”, and “looking to start my own company”, “should I be allowed to do that without a mans approval or backing?”……..do you realize you sound like a major capitalist conservative Republican already?? Tea Party much???

        • Simone September 5, 2014 at 3:00 pm

Actually El I am none of those things. Burton suggested that we return to the original constitution and, by implication, run the country as the founding fathers did. Women, back then could not vote, own land or run a business and slavery was legal. All of that has been changed via legilative action and constitional amendments within the last 150 years or so. If we return to the constitutionas originall written all of that stuff would be washed away. I was merely asking Burton if he supports taking all of those away as well.

Put your big boy pants on BURTON.
      .
Contrast the US with Israel… small country surrounded by much larger hostile neighbors with the stated aim of destroying Isreal. USA: isolated by two vast oceans, possesses the largest, best equipped fighting force in history and the largest economy in the world. Are the Israelis wetting their pants? No dude, they carry on. Meanwhile, American Chicken Littles like yourself here in the US fear that a relative handful of ill-educated and crazy zealots will imminently take over the world.
      .
Terrorism only works if the targeted population is scared. You, my friend, are scared. Here’s the True American way to carry on BURTON. We keep any eye on these crazies, kick ’em in the teeth as needed and then party on by being the most awesome nation in history. We carry on by working hard, raising well educated kids, contributing to our communities and nation, recreating in the greatest outdoors in the world and, in general, living fulfilling lives. We don’t fear another 9/11 but we are vigilant.
      .
Stop reading and watching news sources that are monetizing your latent fear.

Nothing but an uninformed rant with no substance whatsoever. Good for a laugh if it weren’t for the fact that this guy’s vote is no doubt based on the misinformation he’s tossing out here.

  • Truthseeker September 9, 2014 at 8:38 am

Sometimes the truth doesn’t sound so politically correct. Regardless of party and regardless of your opinions…. greedy individuals have destroyed this beautiful country. Humble masses we have again become. Freedom isn’t free. Debt, war, fear, racial/class/gender divide helps keep the infighting and confusion going. American’s NEED to unify under God for liberty and maybe some justice for all. Thank you Kevin!

  • bishpoul October 8, 2014 at 6:39 pm

Washington County, Utah – Assessor’ Office is out of control and we need
a Commissioner who who get them back in line. Police power is a terrible thing
when the Citizen become nothing more that a pawn to be moved my unjust
Government. Tyranny is the result of unaccountable Assessors’s Office.
