CEDAR CITY — A Cedar City man was arrested Friday and charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after authorities discovered him in possession of over 70 images of child pornography.
On Aug. 18, 2013, a warrant filed in the Iron County 5th District Court authorized the search of the residence belonging to Lawrence Herring, Iron County Sheriff’s Office Detective Nathan Houchen wrote in a probable cause statement supporting the arrest.
Multiple images believed to be child pornography were detected on Herring’s laptop and other electronic devices during the search, Houchen wrote in the statement. The electronic devices in question were transported to the Dixie State University forensic laboratory where 12 videos and approximately 70 images of child pornography were discovered.
Business papers, personal papers and family photos and videos were also found on the same electronic devices as the alleged child pornography believed to belong to Herring, Houchen said.
Herring was arrested and charged with 10 second-degree felonies for sexual exploitation of a minor; seven of the counts coming from images of child pornography and three counts from video depicting child pornography.
Herring was booked into the Iron County Jail on Friday. His bail is set at $30,000.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
