WASHINGTON COUNTY — A woman in her mid-60s was transported to the hospital after crashing her car into a cable barrier while traveling southbound on Interstate 15 Wednesday evening.
The single-vehicle collision occurred about 5:20 p.m. near mile marker 45, just before a rest area exit, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Scott Mackelprang said. The woman, who was driving a Toyota Forerunner, was the only occupant of the vehicle and was towing a Ford Ranger behind her.
“The Ranger starts to swerve side to side while she’s towing it,” Mackelprang said. “She loses control, rolls off the road to the left, hits the cable barrier, and this is where she ended up.”
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and Mackelprang said excessive speed was not a factor.
Utah Highway Patrol, Iron County Sheriff’s Office and Iron County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Services responded to the scene.
The woman was taken by Iron County Ambulance to a nearby hospital. Mackelprang said he was uncertain as to the full extent of her injuries as well as what hospital she was transported to.
“I think she was having some kind of medical episode,” Mackelprang said. “I’m not sure if it was related to the accident. She was shaking and needed to be checked out further, but you could tell she wasn’t doing real great.”
Southbound traffic on I-15 was backed up for about a half-mile for 10-15 minutes, but otherwise the accident had little effect on the traffic flow, Mackelprang said.
No citations were issued due to the circumstances involved, he said.
Parkway Towing in Cedar City attended to the wreckage of the accident.

When I first read the headline, I thought it said a St George woman crashed into a Bible Carrier, and I thought that seems about right. She sure caused a lot of carnage. Did she get cited for not maintaining lane control? Did she have a lapse in judgement? Black out?
Great mullet on the tow truck driver-business in the front, party in the back.
Seriously, when towing a load, if it starts to swerve you are supposed to accelerate
slightly. this will bring the load back under control. Letting off the gas or braking will only make the problem worse.
If you do not know how to tow properly you shouldn’t do it.

If you don’t know all the details, don’t commit, you might look like an …
Ed. ellipsis.
Koolaid and beerbelly, accidents happen…judgement and your personal lack of compassion need to go comment elsewhere, like on news pertaining to thieves and killers. Family members read this article and just maybe it would be uplifting if a comment could go out to the one involved and the family in the form of compassion instead of the lack of thought for those involved by commenting about the “whats” and “dids”. How about the “hope she and hope they.” Funny, both your names have to do with liquid.
You’re uninformed and judgemental comments are ridiculous. The article says that speed wasn’t a factor which in their evaluation would include considering the towing. Add for the comment that says or caused alot of carange need to read that the only person or property effected were hers.
It is ignorant to run false comments about your opinions based on incorrect and biased info. Just get the truse facts before you criticize someone for something you know nothing about.
I noticed an error in the report. This is NOT in Washington County but Iron County right before you come to the rest stop and the exit for Kanarraville and New Harmony.
Probably in a towing situation like this the speed limit would easily be excessive speed.
Great photos, Holly.
