Lily Biorn Tebbs

Lily B. Tebbs, age 91, passed away of natural causes on October 17, 2014, in South Jordan, Utah. She was born April 1, 1923, in Niter, Idaho. She was the ninth of 12 children born to Paul R. and Mary E. Schreier Biorn.

Lily, usually known by her nickname “Billie,” attended school in Ashton, Idaho. In 1941, she moved to Boise for beauty school training. There she met her future husband, Merlin E. Tebbs, an Army Air Corps pilot. They were married June 26, 1944.

TebbsLily  Younger lightenedAfter the war, Merlin became a career officer in the Air Force. Billie enjoyed singing, sewing, knitting, doing volunteer work, and socializing with other Air Force wives. She loved fashion and always looked her best. She kept a lovely home.

Billie found her greatest joy in mothering her three children, Bruce, Teresa, and Jane. She nurtured them through the many moves and long absences that Merlin’s career demanded.

During their retirement years, Billie and Merlin lived first in Eagle, Idaho, and then in St. George. Residents of Bloomington for 25 years, they loved their neighbors and the beauty of the area. After Merlin’s death, Billie moved to Boise and later to South Jordan to be close to her children.

Billie is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and eleven siblings. She is survived by her three children: Bruce (Carolyn) Tebbs, Teresa (Larry) Dewey, and Jane (Grant) Nielsen; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd, St. George, Utah.
  • A visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at Metcalf Mortuary.
  • Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery.
