ST. GEORGE — The Jubilee of Trees has grown-up trees with no touching, and a fancy gala dinner with vegetables and salad, but it also includes fun events centered around the biggest fans of Christmas – kids. Among the Jubilee’s festivities that cater to the younger crowd are the Kid’s Store, the Kid’s Art Zone, Santa’s Photo Shop, and the annual favorite, the Teddy Bear Picnic.
“It’s something we know the kids will be excited about,” Char Black, event chairman with the Jubilee of Trees, said.
She added that the Dixie State University show choir will perform hit songs and each child will receive a special inspired gift. Of course no party would be complete without Santa who takes the children on a special tour of the trees.
The Teddy Bear Picnic will be held on Nov. 22 at noon in the Dixie Convention Center. Tickets are $10 and include general admission, lunch, a special performance by the DSU Raging Red Show Choir, a tour of the trees by Santa, and a goodie bag with teddy bear. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Intermountain Foundation at 435-251-2480 or online. The event is sponsored by Robert Hawkes and David Ellis.
“We just want to make sure the whole afternoon is fun and magical,” Black said. “Including admission, lunch, and all the extra goodies, this is an event well worth the ticket price.”
Families who come to the Jubilee during regular admission hours can also take full advantage of the other kid centered booths. The Kid’s Store is a shopping experience dedicated entirely to the discriminating taste of the young and young at heart. It is the perfect place to pick out friend gifts, stocking stuffers, or just a special prize for a fun day out.
The Kid’s Art Zone is every parent’s dream and every child’s delight. It provides an opportunity for the little ones to explore their creative side and let someone else plan it and clean it up. The crafts include decorating cookies, making ornaments, sand art bottles, fishing pond, and more.
To make the trip a complete success, young ones can stop by and chat with Santa. Photos are available and most importantly, everyone gets a chance to give Santa their request or at least make a last appeal to get on the nice list.
“We love seeing the kids at the Jubilee,” said Ken Wilson with the Foundation at DRMC and event director. “Their sense of wonder and joy is what makes this worthwhile. Even at their young age they can understand that the Jubilee is a way to give back. It combines everything that is special about this season.”
Wilson added that if any local schools would like to bring classes to tour the Jubilee, the Foundation would be thrilled to help accommodate requests.
All proceeds from the activities and events at this year’s Jubilee will go to the advancement of cancer services in southern Utah.
