WASHINGTON CITY — The Washington City Fire Department responded to a fire at an abandoned house in Washington City Tuesday night. The structure went up in flames and was a total loss.
At about 10:30 p.m., multiple calls came in from neighbors living near the vacant home, located at 3085 S. Regal Court in Washington City, reporting that the home was fully engulfed in flames, Washington City Fire Chief Brent Hafen said.
The cause of the fire is unknown at the time of this publication. Hafen said arson could have been a factor, but the cause will most likely not be investigated, he said, as the house burned completely to the ground, has been abandoned for years, and has been frequently used as a party house by various local residents.
“We have had a request before to burn it ourselves,” he said. “We were considering using it for a fire training site, so for it to burn down tonight, it wasn’t a problem.”
Employing three fire engines, 18 firefighters extinguished the fire using hoses they had to stretch about 4,000 feet to 5,000 feet, connecting them to hydrants down the hill and west of the house on Noble Drive.
By 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, the fire was out, with only the framing of the house visibly remaining, Hafen said.
The Washington City Fire and Washington City Police departments responded to the scene.

Really??? It could be arson, but they aren’t going to investigate it? That doesn’t make sense to me. If it is arson, someone is a getting away easy. Hope this doesn’t make them feel like it will be alright to do it again…. But hey, why not? Got away with it the first time.
Someone has to pay for an investigation. Who is willing to pay for an investigation on an abandoned house that hasn’t been used for decades? Especially when the city has been trying to get rid of it for years?
I see your point… But arson IS a serious crime!
The fire did the city and the neighbors a favor. a party house for junkies and dope dealers and homeless people dragging down the neighborhood is no longer a problem. everybody is happy the city was going to burn it down anyway.
