Rex E. Smith

Rex Smith, age 78, passed away on January 28, 2015, surrounded by his loved ones.  Rex was born May 24, 1936, to Henen and June Smith in Hibbard, Idaho.  Rex served as the Company Commander of the 116th Army Engineering Battalion in Vietnam. He was proud to serve in the military for 20 years, retiring as a Captain in the United Sates Army.

Rex earned two BS degrees, one from the University of Idaho in Geology and another from SUU in Accounting.  He worked for many years at Wilkinson Electric as their accountant.  Rex grew up in Rexburg, Idaho where he met the love of his life Hazel.  They were married in the Idaho Falls temple and raised four children – Tina, Sherri, Max, and Alison.

Rex and his family settled in Southern Utah, living in Washington to raise their children and later moving to Ivins where he lived with his loving wife until his death.  Rex is preceded in death by his brother Max, his parents Henen and June.  He is survived by his wife Hazel, his children and his 12 grandchildren, Aeriel, Chris, Jason, Jenner, Ben, Alivia, Josh, Tarran, Rachel, Ethan, Amber and Cody, who brought him so much joy in his life.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. at the Red Cliffs 8th Ward Chapel, 625 East Center Street, Ivins, Utah.
  • A visitation will be held Thursday, from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the Chapel.
  • Interment with military honors will be in the Santa Clara City Cemetery, Santa Clara, Utah.
