ST. GEORGE — Dixie’s Got Talent turned up the volume this year during it’s fifth annual competition at Dixie State University Thursday night. Dancers, singers, and musicians alike converged on one stage to show the St. George community why they were deserving of the 2015 title.

“The last two years we’ve been able to sell out,” Chet Norman, president of the Student Alumni Association said. “It’s been a great opportunity for these performers to show their talents and to get a lot of the community involvement.”
All funds raised from the competition will go towards needs-based scholarships for Dixie State University students.
While about a hundred auditioned, only 24 contestants advanced through the two-stage audition process to the finale. There was a youth category as well as an adult category in which each awarded a winner and a runner-up.
Performance types varied widely from parkour to piano, and from lyrical dancing to fiddle playing.
“They go from down to 5, there’s a 5-year-old, and then there’s several adults going up to even 45, 50,” Kaden McDonald, vice president of community affairs, said. “It’s definitely a wide range in age as well as talent.”
The four-member family celtic band, Wooden Tantrum, took home the crown for the adult category with their energetic performance, while soulful singer Sara Williams was awarded runner-up.
For the youth category, 12-year-old Caleb Leavitt won first place with his impressive piano composition and 5-year-old Ellie Felice Seegmiller took home second with her adorable — and powerful — performance of Frozen’s “Let it Go.”
The winners were decided based half on judge scoring and half on crowd voting.
This competition is organized entirely by the Dixie State University Student Alumni Association and The Scholarship Associates, a division of the Dixie College Foundation.
