SALT LAKE CITY — Five Utah companies made Forbes magazine’s top 500 employers list, which was released last week. The companies are Intermountain Healthcare, University of Utah, Vivint, SkyWest Airlines and Intercontinental Hotels.
While Google and Costco ranked first and second in the nation, Utah’s Intermountain Healthcare was not far behind at No. 25, ranking above Apple and the Mayo Clinic, as well as achieving the highest ranking of the three Utah employers that made the list.
Intermountain Healthcare ranked No. 3 nationwide in health organization employers, and has three hospitals in Southern Utah: Dixie Regional Medical Center, Garfield Memorial Hospital and Valley View Medical Center.
The University of Utah was the next highest Utah employer to make the list, coming in at No. 36. Vivint, a Provo-based home security company which employs 7,000 people, came in at No. 315, while SkyWest Airlines of St. George was ranked No. 426. SkyWest Airlines is the only regional airline included in the list.
Intercontinental Hotels of Salt Lake City was ranked No. 475.
The full list ranks 500 employers across 25 industries and is based on a survey of 20,000 American workers at large U.S. companies, not-for-profit institutions, government agencies, and U.S. divisions of multinationals.
The survey, which was conducted on companies employing more than 2,500 workers in the U.S., asked employees how likely would they would be to recommend their employer, or another employer in their industry, to someone else.
Ed. note: Updated at 6:30 to include SkyWest Airlines and Intercontinental Hotels.

Baxter International ranked #6 overall. They are Biolife, they have 2 centers in St. George, 1 in Layton and many more scheduled to open in the next 12 to 18-months. Above average pay, awesome benefits all while pumping money into utahs economy. Take that IHC & UofU.
Baxter International is incorporated in Delaware and headquartered in Illinois, CaliGirl, thus not mentioned in the press release’s highlights of how Utah companies ranked. Thank you, though, and nice to hear your recommendation of the company. 🙂
