The fun started with an early morning 5K and Lions Club breakfast served up by Washington City leaders.

A cheerful parade brightened the cloudy day with colorful clowns, classic cars, decorated floats and more.

But not everything was bright, several characters from cinema’s darker side made an appearance during the celebration including Star Wars’ ultimate bad guy, Darth Vader, and the dark knight himself; Batman.

The action continued at Veterans Park where a festival complete with bounce houses, bubbles, a soapy slip and slide, face painting, vendors, food and entertainment delighted crowds.

The youth council volunteers at several community events, Vanderheyden said adding that they try to help wherever they can.

Over at the Old Nisson Foodtown’s parking lot a fierce battle of antique tractors was waged which showcased the prowess of the old but capable machines.
