ST. GEORGE — It’s Sunday and that means “First Friday” is just five days away for the groundbreaking “George, Streetfest on Main” bringing a new kind of nightlife to St. George.

Top to bottom, here’s what’s happening at Ancestor Square straight down the middle of Main Street between St. George Boulevard and Tabernacle Street – 6-10 p.m.
Ancestor Square Courtyard
The new Zion Brewing Company Jazz Garden in the courtyard at Ancestor Square will offer wine, beer and paired fruit and cheese to the background of live jazz music.
Benja’s will be offering appetizer plates in the Jazz Garden.
Farmer’s Market, what you’re used to on Saturday mornings, will also be offered on “First Friday” night.
Main Street Concert Stage
Precision Hearing Main Street Concert at the top of Main Street will feature a solid lineup of performers including The Academy Show Band, Beans N Wheels and Soul What!?
From 6-8 p.m., Chris and Larae of Canyon Media and Planet 94.1 FM will get the party started as stage emcees.
From 8-10 p.m. Paul & Grady of St. George News’ “No Filter Show” will carry the event.
Guest appearances will include City of St. George Mayor Jon Pike, Uncle George and the production crew from “GeorgeTV.”
Park Place
Park Place at the north end of Main Street will be filled with event sponsors and supporters offering interactive activities and giveaways, lots of giveaways.
Little Soho
Little SoHo in the center of Main Street will be filled with local artists and crafters, buskers performing for tips, The George Store, and George Customs Tent.
Simister Ortho George Jr. Village
Simister Ortho George Jr. Village at the south end of Main Street will feature games and activities for youth offered by local nonprofit organizations including Dove Center, St. George Chamber of Commerce, Recovery Outreach, and Habitat for Humanity.
Food Truck Village
The parking lot at the southwest corner of Main Street and St. George Boulevard will be filled with vendor trucks including Dazzling Bistro, Waffle Love, Uncle Brad’s Fish and Chips, Loaded Stuffed Burgers, and Nacho Mama.
George Passport to the City
The George Passport to the City program invites event participants of all ages to get a George Passport. Visit any 10 of 15 participating Historic Downtown businesses to get your passport stamped. Once you have 10 stamps, you can redeem your passport for entry into the Mayor’s Prize Drawing at the George Customs Tent in the Park Place section Friday night.
Obtain your Passport (booklet complete with coupons) from George’s Corner restaurant at Main Street and St. George Boulevard beginning Wednesday.

“George, Streetfest on Main” was designed by Melynda Thorpe to appeal to residents and tourists alike, offering a monthly outdoor nightlight option supporting local artists, performers and downtown businesses. It is managed and created by Emceesquare Media & Events in partnership with the City of St. George City, St. George Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Historic Downtown Merchants.

No, I must have heard this wrong. St. George? beer? Giant Party? No, the City Counsel would never approve of this. I will have to venture into town to see for myself. I’m not even going to ask if dancing will be allowed. I don’t believe it.
I feel the same way, Billy. I am going to have to check this out with my own two eyes.
No worry, folks. Read it more carefully. It’s just another school carnival gussied up with a little wine and beer and jazz to make it look like St. George is a place for grownups. Reminds me of the “family nights” when I was a good little LDS girl in Idaho.
Don’t get too excited. Real places for grownups look so much different. And one day, Alice, you’ll leave Wonderland and see for yourself.
Looking at the map, I’m a bit hopeful. The kids’ section and the beer/wine section are at separate ends of the block. With any luck, I can enjoy a glass of wine and some good music without kiddos running amok.
