Just after 1 p.m., authorities and medical personnel responded to a home in the area of 2000 North Cascade Canyon Drive in St. George where the man was discovered in a swimming pool.

The family had gotten the man out of the pool and had started CPR by the time first responders had arrived, St. George Police Sgt. Spencer Holmes said.

Lifesaving efforts were initially taken over by St. George Police officers and then by Gold Cross paramedics, Holmes said. CPR efforts went on for almost an hour, but ultimately proved unsuccessful, as the man was pronounced dead just before 2 p.m.

The actual events preceding the drowning were unclear, Holmes said.

“We don’t know if he had a medical episode prior to going into the pool, or if he went underwater while swimming,” he said. “We’re just unsure of the events surrounding it.”

The man and his family had just moved into that house last week, according to the man’s neighbor Rich Christensen.

“I’m sad to hear that,” Christensen said. “It makes my heart break.”

Authorities are withholding the man’s name pending notification of family members.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
