IVINS – A 75-year-old woman was transported to the hospital following a rear-end collision on Center Street in Ivins late Tuesday morning.
Around 11:45 a.m., the driver of a Chevrolet passenger car, eastbound on Center Street near 400 East, decided to pullover to the side of the road for a yet-do-be determined reason. While doing so, a Mitsubishi passenger car following behind, rear-ended the Chevrolet, Santa Clara-Ivins Police Officer Chad Holt said.
A 75-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet, was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George as a precaution, Holt said. She had no visible injuries, though the impact may have contributed to a shortness-of-breath related to a preexisting condition.
At least one of the cars was rendered inoperable and ended up blocking the eastbound traffic lanes near 400 East, resulting in traffic being diverted around the crash while responders tended to the scene.
The scene was cleared by 1:35 p.m. A citation was not issued at the time, as police were still investigating the incident and had yet to interview the woman taken to the hospital, Holt said.
Santa Clara-Ivins Police, Ivins Fire Department and Ivins Ambulance responded to the scene.
