CEDAR CITY — A fire burned a trailer and a four-wheeler to a crisp and damaged a camper van next to a house in Cedar City Friday. However, two neighbors successfully put out the fire before it could spread farther. (See ed. note)
Two women were riding by the house on a four-wheeler when they saw the fire. Not waiting for firetrucks to arrive, they extinguished it themselves with a garden hose
“It was my sister and our friend riding past,” Jessica Chambers, of Cedar City, said.
“They (saw) the fire and they stopped, got the two teenagers out of the house and then got the hoses and put the fire out,” she added.
At about 3 p.m., the Cedar City Fire Department responded to the report of the trailer fire in the area of 6000 W. 1000 South. When firefighters arrived, the fire was already out, Cedar City Fire Marshal Mike Shurtz said.
“The trailer is a total loss,” Shurtz said. “But the camper’s just damaged.”
There were no people or animals injured in the fire.
Shurtz said the cause of the fire is unknown.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
