HURRICANE — Bam! Wow! Kaboom! Bust out your inner caped and costumed crusader and head to the Washington County Fair Wednesday through Saturday at the Washington County Fairgrounds for a derring-do super hero theme sure to please kids of any age.

The super fun fair will take visitors on a veritable tour through super hero history from the comic book craze to big box office heroes and will feature costume contests, zip lining (aka flying like a hero), appearances by Thor, Captain America, Ironman and more.

Comics Plus store owner, David Roland, will be moving a portion of his store to the fair and patrons can receive a free comic book while supplies last.

“This is going to be a very, very fun event,” Director of Entertainment Yvonne Wall said. “It appeals to all ages, but particularly to the younger kids. When my grand children were looking at the catalog, they wigged out, they just screamed and squealed.”

Events kick off on Wednesday at 6 p.m. as county and city officials along with county and city royalties, members of the fair board and special emcee, Carl Lamar, officially welcome in the 2015 installment of the storied fair with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The spotlight city for this year’s fair is Enterprise and special honors will be given at the ribbon cutting to Enterprise residents Sherwood and Winell Bracken, fair Grand Marshalls; and Roddy Roper, recipient of the Pioneer Award.

Entertainment

There will be no shortage of entertainment at this year’s fair. Artists such as Wirelefant, Soul What?!, John Houston and the Rocket Band, Lyndy Butler, Eric Dodge and many more will grace the entertainment stages to the delight of fair goers.

There will also be a laser light show, super hero dance, hypnotist and a free performance by Mallory Lewis and Lamb Chop.

Fair visitors will have their chance at winning prizes as they test their chops in one or more of the many eating contests. From pies, cheeseburgers, pancakes, donuts, hot dogs and more the fair intends to answer the eternal question: “Just how much food can fit in one person’s face?”

City of Fun Carnival will light up the fair with games and rides to whirl, twirl and thrill. This year’s carnival features a new ride called Zero Gravity.

Don’t forget the parade, race, demolition derby, livestock demonstrations, vegetable competition, boxing, elephant rides, cute baby contest and other delights to complete a visit to the fair.
