IVINS – Two people were transported to the hospital Monday following a single-vehicle rollover on 400 South near the intersection of Old Highway 91 that required one man to be extricated from the wreckage.
Around 4:40 p.m., the driver of a Mazda pickup truck was eastbound on 400 South when she somehow lost control of the truck and left the roadway. Along the way, the truck crashed through a barbwire fence and flipped over.
The driver, a woman in her mid-40s, was knocked unconscious, while her passenger, a man also in his mid-40s, remained alert and conscious, Santa Clara-Ivins Police Officer Chad Holt said.
The man had to be extricated from the truck by firefighters while the unconscious woman did not have to be. Both were taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George by Ivins Ambulance, Holt said.
As this report is published, the extent of the injuries to the driver and the passenger are unknown, Holt said. The woman wasn’t wearing a seat belt, though the man was.
“It was still on him when they extricated him,” he said.
“Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor and the driver will be issued a citation for DUI,” Holt said.
Responding agencies included Santa Clara-Ivins Police, Ivins Fire, Ivins Ambulance and Santa Clara Fire.
